Llanfoist Fawr Primary School, Working with the local community

Pupils and staff from Llanfoist Fawr Primary School in Abergavenny are full of the joys of spring, this autumn thanks to local housing developer Candleston Homes, who are part of our Melin group and Randalls Groundworks Limited. The regeneration project set to transform the outdoor space was made possible by both companies who donated over £7k between them. The transformation of the school grounds would not have been possible without the dedication and support of local company Randall’s who carried out the work, spending weeks over the summer holidays ensuring the work would be complete for the new term.

The project links to the school’s curriculum and encourages children to investigate the outdoors, supporting their mental health and wellbeing, as well as creating an inclusive environment. The children now have a safe inclusive pathway to complete a variety of play activities, including their ‘daily mile’.

“Working with the school on this project has enabled us to put community legacy projects like this one, at the heart of everything we do. Seeing all the children’s faces at the grand opening of the path confirms why we support projects like this. We loved the idea the children had of officially opening the path by sprinkling grass seed. This ties in with the project and will create a natural haven for local bugs and wildlife. We would like to thank Randall’s for their support and commitment to the project, we couldn’t have done it without you” Katie Knill – Sales & Project Manager  — Candleston Homes
Before the outdoor space was transformed
As a company we recently relocated to Ebbw Vale, previously we were based in Abergavenny for over twenty years and very much consider ourselves as a local business providing opportunity and employment to the area, therefore when Candleston approached us regarding helping Llanfoist Primary School we didn’t hesitate to show our support.

“After visiting the school, it was very satisfying to see how much the newly constructed footpath will benefit the school, children and staff.
On behalf of Randall’s Groundworks, we hope everyone is happy with the work and thank you for involving us.”
Howard John — Managing Director of Randalls Groundwork

The new pathway which has created an inclusive environment for pupils at Llanfoist Primary School

Pupils from the School Council had loads of fun, christening the new pathway by sprinkling grass seed, Pupil, Oscar told us:
“The new path is great, and it really improves the school. We enjoyed doing our part and grass seeding the edges of the path. It will look great once it grows!”

With Headteacher, Stewart Davies, adding:
“The physical and mental health benefits of the daily mile are huge in terms of pupil wellbeing. The new path will allow the children to complete a full circuit of the Llanfoist grounds no matter what the weather. Thank you”
